Tectonics, Structure & Petroleum Systems
|
John has extensive knowledge of tectonics, basin dynamics and petroleum systems of numerous groups of genetically-related basins worldwide:
|
Indochina
|
South China Sea
|
North Africa |
|
East Africa
|
Circum-South Atlantic |
Sub-Andean Foreland |
|
Sub-Andean Foreland
|
Southern Caribbean |
Gulf of Mexico |
|
Circum-North American Arctic
|
Central Paratethys |
|
John has worked on numerous regional and global studies designed to create exploration databases of play fairways and petroleum systems. Of these, he has taken a particular research interest in evaluating and developing regional tectonic evolutionary models for South America, Gulf of Mexico-Caribbean, South Atlantic and SE Asia, publishing several papers on this subject, which emphasise the importance of tectonics on petroleum system development, and the use of GIS as an important exploration tool. John was also the project manager for a GIS-based digital product that was designed to create a fully consistent, attributed structural and geological digital coverage for the entire globe, with the principal aim of defining all the world’s sedimentary basins.
John has also undertaken extensive field work involving detailed structural/prospect mapping in a variety of tectonic environments (extensional, strike-slip and contractional), including both brittle and ductile regimes (e.g., Yemen, Pakistan).

With over 30 years of professional experience, Vaughan has specialised in the field of potential field geophysics, principally on structural interpretation studies to help analyse prospects and understand the development and disposition of potential oil-bearing structures. He has managed numerous overseas data acquisition surveys, and is an expert in the interpretation of gravity and magnetic data.
Vaughan has undertaken studies in most regions of the world, from the regional-scale, down to prospect level, covering an exhaustive list of sedimentary basins. More recently, Vaughan has worked on the following areas:
| Offshore Eastern Vietnam |
Offshore Southern Vietnam |
Gulf of Thailand |
| Onshore Thailand |
Natuna Sea |
Sunda Shelf |
| East Java Sea |
Malacca Straits |
Bangladesh |
| West Siberian Basin |

GIS and Database Manager

GIS & Database Management
|
Dave’s expertise lie in GIS (Geographic Information System) and data management. Over a relatively short period of time, Dave has gained considerable experience and knowledge in collating and compiling geological datasets. Through our in-house GIS database system – I-MAP – Dave is largely concerned with overseeing the capture of all public domain sourced data, and their integration with our own interpretational elements and data (e.g., gravity and magnetics) and/or exclusive, proprietary datasets, such as seismic and well, in a focused and efficient manner.
Previously, he was responsible for the daily use and maintenance of a GIS-based global exploration database of play fairways and petroleum systems, and the implementation of a global exploration well and fields database.
More recently, Dave has been creating and populating both proprietary and multi-client (non-exclusive) GIS-based exploration databases for selected basins/regions throughout SE Asia:
| East Java Sea |
Gulf of Thailand |
Onshore Thailand |
| Offshore Eastern Vietnam |
Offshore Southern Vietnam |
Natuna Sea |
| Bangladesh |
Algeria |
Libya |
Dave is also responsible for running our GIS technical training courses, which have been designed for the exploration geologist using real examples from across the SE Asian region or elsewhere.
